The 2022/23 Premier League season is officially underway but the Toffees haven’t gotten off to the best of starts with defeats in both of their opening fixtures against Chelsea and Aston Villa.
Everton started their new campaign by hosting Chelsea at Goodison Park on Saturday 6th August but a resilient performance from Tuchel’s side restricted our chances. We gave as good we got in that game and it took a first half stoppage penalty from Chelsea’s Jorginho to win the match for the Blues meaning that we would have to wait until our trip to Villa Park a week later to potentially pick up our first points of the season.
However, a first half strike from Danny Ings made it 1-0 and it was game over when Emi Buendia made it 2-0 with just four minutes of the match remaining. We did manage to claw one back a minute later via a Lucas Digne own goal but it was too little too late and once again we ended up leaving with nothing.
We’re hopeful things will pick up in due course and with 36 league matches of the season remaining, there’s plenty to look forward to.
Seven of Everton’s remaining Premier League matches are scheduled to be televised along with two further fixtures from the Sydney Super Cup.
