Everton planning a whopping £17 million swoop for Premier League defender

Everton are looking to make a big money move for Sunderland defender Lamine Kone, according to reports from the Sun

A summer which had promised so much in the transfer market for Everton has delivered so little till now.

Upon the appointment of Ronald Koeman as manager, it was widely expected that Everton would be bringing in a host of high profile players to Goodison Park and the Dutchman looked set to be backed in the market by billionaire owner Farhad Moshiri.

As of now though, Everton have only secured the services of Idrissa Gueye and Maarten Stekelenburg so far and with the Premier League season set to start within a week, fans are getting a bit impatient.

Nonetheless, Everton do look like they will be ramping up their pursuit for new players in the coming days and signing a new central defender will surely be high on the agenda for Koeman, especially as John Stones is very likely to join Manchester City this summer.

There has been a lot of talk that Swansea City skipper Ashley Williams will be arriving at Everton soon and now in another link, the Sun claim that the Toffees are currently considering a swoop for Sunderland’s Lamine Kone as well.

Kone joined Sunderland from Lorient during the January transfer window of last season and the defender played a crucial role in helping the Black Cats avoid relegation into the Championship.

As a result, Kone has managed to garner the interest from numerous clubs and if reports from the Sun are to be believed, Everton are planning to make a whopping £17 million bid for the 27-year-old.

While Sunderland want to keep hold of the services of Kone, the reported £17 million offer on the table will surely be a tempting one as the Black Cats paid only £5 million for the defender eight months ago and the transfer coming into fruition this summer seems like a big possibility at the moment.
