Danny Mills and Kevin Kilbane agree on whether Everton should sign Wayne Rooney

Danny Mills and Kevin Kilbane have gone on to state their belief that Everton should re-sign Wayne Rooney from Manchester United.

Rooney left Everton for Manchester United during the summer of 2004 under a bit of a cloud and the former club hero instantly turned into public enemy number one following his acrimonious exit from Merseyside.

However, the relationship between Rooney and the Everton fans seems to be on the mend and as a testament to this fact, the 31-year-old received a very warm welcome when he returned to Goodison Park during Duncan Ferguson’s testimonial earlier this season.

With Rooney now struggling to earn regular minutes on the pitch for Manchester United, there has been speculation that the striker could well be making a sensational return back to Everton and manager Ronald Koeman has recently gone on to talk up the possibility of signing the England skipper.

Now Danny Mills and Kevin Kilbane have also gone on to speak regarding the reports and the duo have backed Everton to bring Rooney back home.

Mills was speaking to BBC and said, “Without a shadow of a doubt. He had that option to leave, he was very, very young, he had no choice but to go and further and develop his own career, and he’s done fantastically well.

“Of course they’d take him back, without a shadow of a doubt. They’d sell some shirts as well wouldn’t they? Another big bonus for taking Rooney back.”

Kilbane agreed by stating, “I think it would give him a spark, I would take him back to Everton. I think a majority of Evertonians would warm to him again and he would be a great fit. Financially it’s a struggle for Everton [though].”
