Goodison Park

Iranian billionaire Farhad Moshiri is on the verge of taking over a majority stake of 49.9 per cent at Everton, it can be confirmed

Talk regarding a takeover of Everton had been consistently reported in the media over the past few months and it can finally be revealed that the Toffees are set to be acquired by Iranian businessman Farhad Moshiri, subject to Premier League approval.

Moshiri is a London-based Iranian billionaire who previously had a stake at North London situated Premier League giants Arsenal.

In order to purchase Everton, Moshiri recently sold his shares in the Red and White Holdings on Friday to his business partner Alisher Usmanov and it has paved the way for the 60-year to complete his takeover of the Toffees.

After the takeover being in the pipeline for well over a year, current Everton chairman Bill Kenwright confirmed on Saturday that Moshiri will now be taking over the reins at the club.

Kenwright said, “After an exhaustive search I believe we have found the perfect partner to take the club forward. I have got to know Farhad well over the last 18 months and his football knowledge, financial wherewithal and True Blue spirit have convinced me that he is the right man to support Everton.”

Moshiri was delighted at being able to purchase Everton and now has his sights on raising the profile of the club in the coming years. The Iranian said, “I am delighted to take this opportunity to become a shareholder in Everton, with its rich heritage as one of Europe’s leading football clubs.

“There has never been a more level playing field in the Premier League than now. Bill Kenwright has taught me what it means to be an Evertonian and I look forward with excitement to working with him to help deliver success for Everton in the future.”

While there is no denying the fact that Bill Kenwright has conducted a wonderful job at Everton since acquiring majority stakes at the club in 2004, fans had felt that the club needed a fresh cash injection in order to take a step up to the next level and the arrival of Moshiri is sure to be welcomed by the Goodison faithful.
