Everton looking to end Joel Campbell’s misery at Arsenal

After a poor start to the campaign, things are certainly picking up for Everton and on the basis of recent performances, it looks like the Toffees will most certainly be able to challenge for a European position this season as well.

However, with the competition so tough and Everton being stuck by some sort of injury curse – it is looking likely that Roberto Martinez will have to strengthen his ranks over the January transfer window.

A central defender seems to be of paramount importance for Everton but a new front man also reportedly on the cards and it has now been revealed that Martinez is eyeing a swoop for out-of-favour Arsenal striker Joel Campbell.

Campbell enjoyed a fantastic season with Olympiakos last year and then further enhanced his reputation as one of the finest young strikers in the world with a wonderful performance at the summer World Cup for Costa Rica.

As a result, it was widely believed that the striker would play a starring role for Arsenal during the current campaign. However, as it has turned out – Campbell has made only 2 league appearances for the Gunners so far and the young man seems to be well down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium behind the likes of Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck, Yaya Sanogo and Lukas Podolski.

With Campbell finding first team football hard to come by, it seems certain that he will be looking for a way out of Arsenal in January and the likes of Inter and Benfica are said to be closely monitoring his situation.

According to reports emerging out of England, it has now been revealed that even Everton are exploring the possibility of bringing Campbell to Goodison Park.

It is believed that Martinez is planning a swoop of around £7million for the striker and the Everton boss is hopeful of luring the Costa Rican international to Merseyside with the promise of regular first team football.

While it remains to be seen whether the reports have any credibility behind them, the addition of Campbell will most certainly be a welcome one for Everton.

Admittedly, the duo of Romelu Lukaku and Samuel Eto’o have been doing fantastically well so far this season. However, Eto’o will not be able to play 90 minutes every weekend while Arouna Kone seems to be perpetually injured.

Therefore, the arrival of a young and exciting striker such as Campbell could prove to be invaluable for Everton and he would certainly be helpful for the Toffees to effectively deal with the rigours of the Premier League as well as Europe.
