Everton vs West Ham United – Match Ratings

In typical fashion, Everton once again were unable to build on their good run of form after suffering an extremely disappointing 3-2 defeat at the hands of West Ham United on Saturday.

Despite leading 2-0 during a certain point of the match, Everton went on to suffer a 3-2 defeat and the collapse was most certainly self inflicted following a red card and a missed penalty.

The result means that Everton’s chances of finishing in Europe are almost certainly over and if the Toffees are not able to bring about more consistency within the next few weeks, even a place in the top half will be put into jeopardy.

Here is an analysis of the performance of the Everton players on the day –

Joel Robles – 6

Robles

Despite conceding thrice during the game, Joel Robles could not be faulted and he did make a couple of decent saves on the day – particularly from Emmanuel Emenike from point blank range.
Seamus Coleman – 6

2

Coleman was deployed in the wing back position and the Irishman certainly looked a big threat before Kevin Mirallas was sent off.

Even after the dismissal of Mirallas, Coleman performed very well defensively in tandem with Aaron Lennon.

Ramiro Funes Mori – 4.5

Mori

Ramiro Funes Mori has enjoyed a productive season since joining Everton but his performance against West Ham was poor to say the least.

While Funes Mori did make a good start to the game, he was arguably at fault for at least two of the goals Everton conceded on the day.

Phil Jagielka – 5.5

4

Much like Funes Mori, Jagielka enjoyed a decent game early on but he could have perhaps done a lot better in helping his side avoid the second half capitulation.

John Stones – 6.5

Stones

Stones played in a three man backline and had put in a commanding performance in the first half.

Unfortunately for Everton though, Stones had to be subbed off in the second period following Mirallas’ red card as part of a tactical reshuffle.

Bryan Oviedo – 6

15

Oviedo started the game in dangerous fashion, providing an assist for Lukaku.

However, his influence on the game waned as he was forced to drop back into the left back position following Mirallas’ sending off.

James McCarthy – 6

7

McCarthy started without his usual partner Gareth Barry in midfield but the Irishman had managed to assert his influence on the game.

However, McCarthy did make a couple of rash challenges and his passing on the day was not up to the usual impeccable levels.

Kevin Mirallas – 4

8

Mirallas was sent off in the first half and while Everton had managed to do well immediately after his red card, the lack of numbers undoubtedly caused their late collapse at the end.

An experienced player like him should have known better before clattering Mark Noble for his second booking.

Ross Barkley – 6.5

134

Barkley enjoyed a good game and managed to pull the strings from an attacking midfield position.

The Englishman did well defensively as well and could not be faulted for the defeat.

Aaron Lennon – 8

Lennon

Aaron Lennon has found a new lease of life in recent times and it was a stunning performance from the winger.

Whether in attack or at the back, Lennon never stopped running and it was no coincidence that Everton collapsed right after his exit from the game on the 76th minute.

Romelu Lukaku – 6.5

11

Lukaku enjoyed a wonderful first period and managed another goal.

However, the Belgian international missed a crucial penalty which would have made it 3-0 to Everton and he would most certainly have been ruing the error.

Muhamed Besic – 5

15

Came on after the interval and even managed to win a penalty.

However, Besic did not provide enough protection to his backline during the final 15 minutes of the game.

Oumar Niasse – 5

Niasse

Came on for Lennon but did not have the same impact.
Gareth Barry – 4.5

6

A late sub.
