Watford vs Everton – Match Ratings

McCarthy

Here is an analysis of the performance of the Everton players against Watford –

Player Rating

Comment
Joel Robles – 6.5

Robles

Robles made a couple of good saves throughout the course of the match but there are question marks regarding as to whether he could have done better to prevent Holebas from finding the net.

Seamus Coleman – 7

2

Coleman did not enjoy the best of games against Manchester United last weekend but he most certainly put in a much improved display at Vicarage Road.
John Stones – 6

Stones

Stones was solid defensively but his impeccable distribution was not up to his usual standards and a wayward pass led to Everton conceding a goal on the day.

Phil Jagielka – 6.5

4

Jagielka did well to deal with the duo of Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney and it was a decent overall performance from the skipper.

However, Jagielka did lose his man during corner which lead to the concession of the goal and the defender would have been slightly disappointed as a result.

Leighton Baines – 6

5

Baines has been in the news over the last week or so after criticizing and then apologizing for his comments regarding Everton’s lack of cohesion.

The left back did not enjoy the best of performances on the day and he could potentially find his place under threat for next week.

Gareth Barry – 7.5

6

Barry has been sorely missed by Everton over the past few weeks and the midfielder gave a reminder of his real class with a quality performance at the middle of the park.
James McCarthy – 7.5

McCarthy

The presence of Barry seems to get the best out of McCarthy and the Irishman was in top form on the day.

The hard working midfielder was rewarded for his persistence with a goal and he was arguably Everton’s best player on the pitch.

Gerard Deulofeu – 5.5

Deulofeu

Deulofeu was handed a start ahead of Tom Cleverley during the clash but the young winger was not at his best and was eventually hauled off in the second half.
Ross Barkley – 5

Barkley

Barkley has not enjoyed the best of times over the past few weeks and it was another very poor display from the England international against Watford.

Aaron Lennon – 6.5

Lennon

Aaron Lennon looked one of the most threatening attacking players for Everton on the day and he forced Gomes into a couple of decent saves.

The winger have done much better with his finishing though.

Romelu Lukaku – 6.5

Lukaku

Lukaku did well to lead the line for Everton despite the lack of support and was very unlucky not to have found the back of the net in the second half, when he saw his effort come back off the bar.

Substitutes

Tom Cleverley – 6

Cleverley

Replaced Barkley in the second period and was far more effective in the role as central attacking midfielder.
Kevin Mirallas – 6

Mirallas

Mirallas could not alter the course of the match but he did look dangerous whenever on the ball.

Ramiro Funes Mori – NA

Mori

A late sub for Jagielka.
